Blepharoplasty Tokyo
Blepharoplasty in Tokyo

The blepharoplasty is a really safe procedure that almost always yields the results the person desires but every type of surgery can go wrong and there can be complications of the surgery that need to be addressed. Blepharoplasty complications are usually temporary and require only minimal intervention. If you are in need of a blepharoplasty, you should know the blepharoplasty complications before going into the procedure.
Some complications happen that don’t require a doctors intervention. These include swelling and bruising of the affected area. You can treat these blepharoplasty complications with cool compresses applied to the eyes six times a day for at least a half hour. Such a treatment can reduce swelling and can enhance healing of the affected tissue. Bruising gets better with cool compresses for two days followed by warm compresses after that. Make sure the swelling is down before starting warm compresses.
There can be double vision or blurry vision after having blepharoplasty surgery. This only lasts a couple of days and resolves on its own. There is no specific treatment you need to use for this complication but you shouldn’t drive and you cannot use contact lenses. Use eyeglasses instead if necessary.
Some blepharoplasty complications require a doctor’s intervention. If you get an infection of the incision or of the skin, you will need topical and/or oral antibiotics from the doctor. You should see the doctor if you get redness or pus around the incision. Your recovery will last longer with this sort of complication but, hopefully, the outcome will still be good. Scarring can become a problem if the incision becomes grossly infected.
You can have an adverse reaction to the anesthesia. If you are having a blepharoplasty plus a face lift and/or brow lift, you should probably have general anesthesia. If it is just a blepharoplasty, local anesthesia will often be the only thing required. Sedation is often used to calm you.
You can get a numb sensation on the surface of the eyelid from damaged nerves. This tends to last a few days to a few weeks and then resolves itself. You can also get asymmetry in healing and in the scarring process. This can result in an uneven scar that needs to be repaired. Your eyes can burn, sting or feel excessively dry because of surgery. You can use artificial tears to correct this situation as it is a temporary blepharoplasty complication. Other patients have too many tears; this is something you don’t have to do anything about.
A more severe complication includes what’s called a retrobulbar hematoma. This is a collection of blood forming beneath the skin that is a blepharoplasty complication needing no specific treatment besides warm compresses. In rare situations, the hematoma has to be surgically removed. It is more common to have a hematoma when the face lift or brow lift is done at the same time as the blepharoplasty.
Complications depend on the ability of the surgeon to do a good job and on the patient. Some people heal better than others and others get complications because they don’t follow the doctor’s recommendations.
